The importance of our environment has been the focus of my art practice for decades. In these “Landfill” pages, discarded plastic and other trash are incorporated as materials. Our overconsumption and toxic manufacturing practices are killing our planet…our only home. The full life cycle of plastic from its creation to its disposal is poisonous. We produce more than 430 million tons of plastic annually, two-thirds of which are short-lived products that soon become waste, fill the ocean and, often, work their way into the human food chain. Plastic production is one of the most energy-intensive manufacturing processes in the world contributing to perilous greenhouse gas emissions.
