The Portrait Series began when my dominant right hand became partially disabled from an accumulation of injuries brought on by overuse, a common symptom of artists. I painted the first self portrait with my left hand, using a large brush dipped into bright acrylics.There was an unexpected freedom in this clumsiness without the interference of my bossy right hand. The next portraits are a combination of both left and right hand gestures.
